Vermiculite can be used as a growing medium on its own, as an addition to your current soil or as a valuable component of your own homemade germination mix.

Vermiculite increases the retention of the required nutrients and water as well as improving the aeration in the soil for strong and healthy plants.

Vermiculite does not aerate the soil as much as Perlite does, however, its water retaining capabilities is where it shines, being able to absorb up to 16 times its weight in water, and slowly releasing it into the soil.
