Pimpinella anisum
Native to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Anise is
one of the most ancient herbs known. This variety has been grown in the US
since the fourteenth century. Anise is a very versatile herb and spice, used to
flavour "Black Jellybeans", Humbugs, as a confectionery and digestive in Indian cuisine. Anise is very aromatic - all parts of the
plant are edible. Make use of this herb to make Anise tea, in your spaghetti sauce or in bread recipes. The flowers and leaves can be used in fruit salad or as a garnish.
