Phaseolus vulgaris
An old Italian heirloom and a close relative to the kidney bean. These beans are also often referred to by a few other names such as Cranberry beans, Roman beans, or Saluggia beans.
These compact bush beans produce beautiful pink/purple streaked pods in as little as 50-60 days.
The dried beans are quite pretty, with beautiful maroon stripes and speckles on a creamy
base. Sadly, the colours are lost when cooked, but the creamy texture
and rich nutty flavor more than makes up for this. Delicious in casseroles, soups, stews or for making 'sous boontjies'.
Good for use as a green bean, shelly bean or dry bean.
Standard packet contains approx. 25 seeds
Petite packet contains approx. 10 seeds
Using Beanflo-Rhizobium bacteria when planting your bean seed is the most cost effective way of putting nitrogen fixing bacteria into your soil, creating healthier soil for a more productive harvest.
