Brassica oleracea capitata
Brunswick is a solid, white, globe shaped cabbage. A remarkably good producer of hard heads that can grow to around 25cm in diameter, with an average weight of around 4kg. Introduced in Germany in 1924, this reliable old heritage variety has been grown in home gardens and commercially ever since. This variety is suited perfectly for storage or sauerkraut. Due to its good flavour and ability to ‘stand’ in the field before splitting, it is slowly gaining its popularity again.
Cabbage is an extremely low-calorie veggie, and it is said that 1 cup contains only 15 calories!
