Ocimum basilicum
Believed to have originated in Mexico, a speciality basil that is very popular in egg and meat based dishes, hot drinks and fruit dishes. The dried leaves are used extensively in Potpourri. For cooking, both fresh and or dried leaves can be used; the dried leaves have a more concentrated, spicier flavour and fresh leaves are milder and generally sweeter. This basil has a slight cinnamon and anise taste to it that adds an almost exotic flavour profile to your dishes. Basil is known to be high in vitamins A, C and K.
