Another Paul Thomson creation, one of the pioneers in dragon fruit breeding, this cultivar has been considered a staple of commercial high-end dragon fruit production for decades.

The plant is self fertile, but fruit size benefits from planting another variety close by. On the other hand, the fruit are huge (up to 600grams) with a superb flavour, somewhat reminiscent of grapes.

The magenta-pink colour of Purple Haze’s flesh is created by a cocktail of the potent super-antioxidants betanin, indicaxanthin, phyllocactin and hylocerenin and their related compounds.
