Cichorium endiva

Batavian Full Heart was crowned the All American Selection crop back in 1934 and has kept its position as a garden favourite. Beautiful heads of broad, thick, and curled, lettuce-like green leaves enclose deliciously buttery, white, blanched hearts. The leaves are less bitter than other endive varieties and are delicious in salads, soups, and stews or sautéed and added to your meal as a side.

Tip: Tie the outer leaves of the plant together with gardening string a few weeks before harvest to keep your leaves white and sweet.
