Ginger Zingiber officinale

Oom Piet's ginger is a yellow fleshed ginger that is a strong potent ginger with a robust upfront flavour. Not quite as crisp as Mission, however it's strong flavour really comes to the fore in heavily spiced dishes. We use this one in all the superb curries that my wife makes. and she is not shy with the amount that she adds.

We have been asked for a long time to supply locally grown ginger root for planting.

Our Ginger is ready to plant and will probably have a few eyes by the time you receive it.

Best grown in light or partial shade.

Plant in well improved soil with added bonemeal (Talborne's BonePhos is perfect) and keep well watered but not constantly wet.

If you are in a frost region, then plant in pots so that they can overwinter indoors on a sunny windowsill.

The plant get to about 1m tall and has stunning flowers! Once the flowers have died down, it's time to look at lifting your crop.

Lift the roots, rinse them and clean with a soft brush and allow to dry in a cool place. Use the damaged pieces first.

P.S. save some for replanting, you will never need to buy imported (or unknown origin) ginger in the shops again.
