Leningrad is a porcelain hardneck variety that was originally
collected from Belarus historically known as White Russia, approximately
600 km south of Leningrad, Russia
Typically as you would expect from something Slavic it is a big, tall, hot variety with an assertive flavour that lingers on the tongue.
As this is a hardneck variety, it will benefit from you pulling the scapes as they start to flower.
Leningrad is a stunning beautifully striped variety, producing between 4 and 6 cloves per head. These also commonly produce small bulbils that if planted will produce garlic rounds, or single clove garlic, Leningrad when grown in good conditions will give you big plump cloves that are very easy to peel.
Please follow our growing and harvest guide to ensure that you get the best possible harvest.
These heirloom garlic varieties have been acclimated to South Africa over the last 6 years and are specifically grown for you as seed garlic.
