WATCH Our Garlic Growing Series: How to Grow Great Garlic
NOTE: 2025 Garlic will be shipped from the 20th of January on a FIFO basis.Leningrad is a porcelain hardneck variety that was originally collected from Belarus historically known as White Russia, approximately 600 km south of Leningrad, Russia
Typically as you would expect from something Slavic it is a big, tall, hot variety with an assertive flavour that lingers on the tongue.
As this is a hardneck variety, it will benefit from you pulling the scapes as they start to flower.
Leningrad is a stunningly beautiful striped variety, producing between 4 and 6 cloves per head. These also commonly produce small bulbils that if planted will produce garlic rounds, or single clove garlic, Leningrad when grown in good conditions will give you big plump cloves that are very easy to peel.
Please follow our growing and harvest guide to ensure that you get the best possible harvest.
If you live in a winter rainfall area, we strongly recommend that you use Biogrow Copper Soap on your garlic plants. Spray preventatively for rust every 2-3 weeks with a mixture of 50% of the minimum dose and water.
