Tropaeolum majus

Climbing Nasturtiums or Kappertjies in Afrikaans make a lovely feature in your garden. Train up a trellis for a stunning show of blooms throughout the growing season until cut down by frost. The bright yellows, oranges and reds add a brilliant splash of colour to both your garden and your plate. The leaves, flowers and seeds are edible with a peppery flavour. Flowers make a great addition to salads or as a garnish, the leaves can be used to make a pesto and the seeds can be pickled and used in place of capers.

Easy to grow; plant directly in full sun or partial shade once the soil is at least 20 deg C, or plant in seedling tray to get a jump on the season.
