An old French heirloom whose origins are pretty much unknown. The earliest records go back to 1940, when it was well-known as the premier tomato variety in France.

This large, beautifully fluted tomato slices well. And thanks to its meaty, sweet, low-acid flesh, it's extremely versatile.

The plant gets big and is a heavy bearer, so give it ample space. It is reputed to out-bear all other varieties, providing it has excellent soil conditions.
