• Piennolo del Vesuvio Tomato Tomatoes

Solanum lycopersicum

An old Italian heirloom, thought to be one of the oldest varieties from the southern region of Campania around the mountain of Vesuvius. Piennolo means hanging, which refers to the method in which the locals would tie bunches of the tomatoes together and hang them for storage, it is here that this variety comes into its own: the true intensely rich flavours come to the fore as they mature and sweeten.

A beautiful, deep red, oval cherry tomato with a very distinct pointed tip that forms on the blossom end. Awesome as a salad tomato, sauce tomato as well as for preserves and purees.

This variety can be harvested around 70 days after transplanting and its good storage attributes once picked, makes it an excellent choice to sell at farmers markets.

This indeterminate variety can grow to approx 1.5ms tall and will require staking/support.
