Papaver somniferum

A traditional Afgan variety that is used for medicinal purposes. Grown specifically for their profusion of huge white blooms. Bees seem to have a real appetite for all poppies and really work the blooms hard for most of the morning. Carrying both nectar and pollen back to their hives.

Blooms are pure white to white with a faint pink blush in the center. Seed capsules are large and filled with seed that can be used in baking or to feed your chooks.

In general, poppies are really easy to grow and are best planted in early to mid winter, once the soil starts to cool.

Poppies do not like to be transplanted so direct sowing is advisable. Cold tolerant and really easy to grow.
