Phaseolus coccineus
An early 19th century Heirloom, that according to SSE, was described by Friar Antonio De Arribida in Rio De Janeiro in 1827.
Painted Lady is well know, as much for its astonishing bicolour, coral red and creamy white-pink blooms, as for the superior beans produced. The pods grow to an impressive 20cm, are deliciously thick and meaty with a sweet balanced flavour. The plants can tolerate some heat and make a beautiful show in the garden.
The pods can be picked young and eaten fresh when juicy and tender. The dried beans have a rich chocolate and creamy coffee colour.
Standard packet contains approx. 25 seeds
Petite packet contains approx. 10 seeds
Using Beanflo-Rhizobium bacteria when planting your bean seed is the most cost effective way of putting nitrogen fixing bacteria into your soil, creating healthier soil for a more productive harvest.
