Antirrhinum majus
Snapdragons, or Leeubekkies, hold fun childhood memories for many people; what's not to love about pinching the snapdragon flower to "make it talk", fun for kids and overgrown kids too. They provide a stunning show of colours from white, to yellow, pink, red and even orange. Snapdragon flowers, although not the most flavourful and sometimes bordering on bitter, are indeed edible and make lovely garnish pieces if you do not enjoy the flavour.
This dwarf snapdragon makes a lovely short (around 20cm high) border and its bushy, compact growth habit makes it ideal for growing in containers.
A cool season crop, seeds are best sown in March for a profusion of blooms from June or July all the way through to October if you are lucky. For best germination, place the seeds in the fridge for a week before surface sowing into seedling trays, using a humidity dome to keep moisture levels up.
Standard packet contains approx. 500 seeds
