Beta vulgaris var cicla

If you have eaten Swiss Chard, you have probably eaten Fordhook Giant. This is a very common and well known variety that has been a market leader for years. It will cross with other Chards and beets.


Standard packet contains approx. 150 seeds

Petite packet contains approx. 50 seeds


Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 Bananas
  • 3 Cup Spinage leaves (baby)
  • 1/2 Cup Dates (soaked)
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 1/2 Tsp Mint leaves ( finely chopped)


Directions

  1. Blend together
  2. Freeze with a slice of kiwi fruit or strawberry

Add more dates or mint to taste.

The chard that keeps on keeping on ...
Every garden should have a few of these plants. They are such an excellent standby.

The quickest, easiest way to cook it:
Soak the leaves in a sink of salted lukewarm water for about ten minutes. (This gets rid of grit)
Rinse them well and place the wet leaves on a chopping board, piling them all on top of each other. Roll them up into a long, fat cigar shape and cut crosswise, stalk and all. Place the still wet ribbons of chard into a pot and cook on a medium heat with the lid on until the leaves are wilted. Drain and quickly stir in some butter, salt and a grating of nutmeg
