Solanum melongena
Ever wondered where eggplants got their name? Well, have a look at this old Asian variety and it suddenly becomes clear. Tough as nails, disease resistant, these are heavy producers of beautiful, white, egg shaped fruits. Plants have large, lobed, coarse leaves and like other members of the eggplant family - they produce stunning purple to white flowers that the bees will appreciate. The flesh is sweet and delicate without any hint of bitterness. Japanese White Egg can be enjoyed grilled, baked, sautéed, stuffed, or fried.
Whole eggplants can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 days to one week. If cut, vinegar or lemon juice is beneficial to keep their white flesh from discolouring. A superb variety to add in your garden this season.
