Papaver somniferum

This is the standard Turkish poppy grown in the Afyon region for commercial medicinal purposes. The seed of this poppy is white and the plants are waist high with a profusion of purple centered white flowers.
The blooms are particularly stunning, lasting but a day, fortunately they are produced in masses, creating a stunning visual show wherever they are grown.

In general, poppies are really easy to grow and are best planted in early to mid winter, once the soil starts to cool.

Poppies do not like to be transplanted so direct sowing is advisable. Cold tolerant and really easy to grow.
