Wheatgrass

(Triticum aestivum)

One of the most popular sprouting and microgreens varieties.

As a sprout, wheat is grown to the ‘pin stage’ where a small green shoot is evident. These sweet sprouts are then added to baked dishes, salads and sandwiches, they are even added at the final stages in rice or other cooked grains to add texture and interest.

As a Microgreen, wheatgrass is grown as a ‘cut and come again’ crop. Soil based systems work the best for a crop like wheat grass and you can get your first harvest in as little as 6 or 7 days, allowing for re-growth you can harvest every 5 days thereafter for about 2 weeks before you need a new stand. Wheatgrass as a microgreen is typically juiced.
