Cucurbita maxima
Yes, there was a Mrs Hubbard, and the Hubbard squashes are named after her. Originally there was only the green version, however over the years a number of colour variants have come to light. The Golden Hubbard is a sweet fleshed squash that if picked young can be eaten skin and all. It does well in short-term storage (2-3 months). Expect 3-5 fruits per plant. Starts setting fruit at about 1-1.5 meters from the crown. The plant is not as rampant as other pumpkin varieties. Pick out the growing points after 2 fruits have set per vine.
